Rare Book: “Dune”, by Frank Herbert, published in 1970 by Chilton as the third printing of the original release.
This is a very good to very good plus book with its original very good to VG+ paper dust jacket exhibiting the original cover price of $5.95 inside the front flap.
The book has some spine cock (see images; the front cover board overhangs the back cover board when the book is resting flat on it’s back). The four board corners show just a hint of minor bumping but are primarily square.
There is a neatly scripted gift inscription inside the front end paper: “Merry Christmas 1972”, otherwise, no pen marks or writing. None of the page corners are turned down or creased. The text block is tight and closes with out gaps in the pages. There is some slight tanning to the text block edge, but not significant. There is one very small speck on the bottom text block edge, and two on the top: one half circular about one centimeter is size and a thin strip approx. 2.5 centimeters in length by perhaps 1/2 centimeter in width. The spine heel and top are bumped and the spine white lettering is bright.
The dust jacket is protected in a removable Brodart professional sleave. The tips of the flap folds havev some small chipping as do the spine edges, with the top edge having the largest losses and the letter “t” in “Herbert” is rubbed away (see pictures). Some edge wear to top edge along front and back with some slight chipping and creasing, bottom edges are close to perfect, one small blemish on front cover bottom.
Overall, a really, really nice collectible early print of one of the greatest science fiction books every written!
This will make a great addition to your collection or a super special gift.
